Dark Spots on Face

It’s a simple fact of life that no matter how well we a person may take care of himself or herself, nobody will ever have perfectly flawless skin throughout their entire lives. There will always come at least one day when a person will wake up and notice dark spots or patches on his or her skin. These spots are usually not serious, but many people may see them as unsightly and wish to cover them up or get rid of them altogether. This is especially true when they appear on the face. Dark spots on face are usually no more severe than dark spots anywhere else on the body, but they are harder to cover up. Fortunately for those who wish to improve their complexions, there are some ways to treat dark spots on face.

skin pigmentationDark spots on face as well as elsewhere on the body is almost always due to an excess of melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives people their natural skin color, and naturally when deposits of it form in the skin it causes darker spots to appear. This happens to practically everybody as they age, and the darker spots that appear are often of little consequence. The problem can be more severe in some cases due to a condition called hyperpigmentation, which causes large dark patches to form on the skin.

Dark spots appearing on the skin can be caused by a number of factors such as sun damage, hormonal imbalances due to pregnancy or menopause in women, acne, scarring or simply growing older. There are many other causes of these dark spots, but these are by far the most common. Effective treatment can be as simple as treating the root cause of the problem. Those who suffer from hyperpigmentation due to sun damage may be advised to limit their exposure to sunlight, and acne can often be treated with facial cleansers, creams or medication. Other treatment options include skin-lightening cream containing hydroquinone or Retin-A, regular exfoliation and chemical peels. The fastest treatment for dark spots is laser therapy, which uses an intense beam of light that destroys melanin cells while keeping the surrounding healthy cells intact. The dark spots are completely removed in 70 percent of these laser treatments.
